Welcome to the K-Meleon place!
We are glad to see you here!
So, what the buzz is about? Who is that lizard?!
OK. K-Meleon is just another web browser. And it's different.
What is the difference?
K-Meleon is the LIGHTEST modern browser for Windows OS. Look, old K-Meleon 1.6-1.7 can be run even under Windows98 (with some tricks applied - google for KernelEx) running on 32Mb of RAM - and it would make its job better than any other browser in the world of '98!
OK, you don't use Win98 and even wasn't familiar with. You have average PC with 1-2Gb of RAM. Do you need K-Meleon? Of course! You need brand new K-Meleon 75!.
Internet Explorer became much more secure in 8-th and 9-th versions in comparison with IE 6 or 7, but it is still most inconvenient browser in the world. FireFox and Chrome (and even Opera!) are better here but they would eat all your RAM after some little work in the Web.
Press green bold link above to read about RAM consumption comparative testing - you'll see the truth yourself!
You are happy with new supermodern multicore PC with gigs of RAM? Don't refuse to try K-Meleon! It's pure joy, pleasure and happiness to see browser reacting to your commands with lightning speed!
No, sure! K-Meleon is one of the most (if not the most of the most) configurable browsers. It can be easy tweaked through simply editing plain text config files or even by just adding needed files to needed places!
Moreover, K-Meleon has unique feature: its own scripting MacroLanguage, allowing to add new menus and toolbars, add new functions by creating extensions, which can be simple text-based macros, or can integrate 3rd-party code in js-, jar-, xul- or even exe- and dll-forms.
One of the forks, K-Meleon CCF, is devoted to full refusal from xul-code and pointing on LUA language as the base of its extensibility. Almost any modern way of coding can be adapted to use with K-Meleon. And this is real UNIQUE PROPOSITION of K-Meleon among all the existing browsers.
Spread a word about K-Meleon!
Technically, K-Meleon is the Gecko-based browser using the earlier Mozilla option to embed the engine into different apps and GUIs.
K-Meleon is wrapped into native Windows shell, Windows API.
Speaking in general terms this means that it uses native windows libraries to display its own GUI instead of using XUL (XML User Interface Language) like FireFox. This leads to significantly reduced RAM consumption and therefore in noticeable speeding up of browser interacting with PC user.
That is the main reason of legendary KM's lightness and speed.
The Macro Power
K-Meleon Macros are the real power weapon of our lizard.
Simple text-based kmm-files written on the KM MacroLanguage can add new functionality, integrate any third-party code like FireFox extensions, java-apps or even Windows applications into K-Meleon.
Take a look on K-Meleon Extensions Central to evaluate the number of functions already added to the bare browser.
Unlike FireFox or Chrome extensions kmm-extras are not
The MacroLanguage would be extremely easy to learn for any man who has some background in any programming language.
Even such a coding dummy like me, rodocop, was able to create some useful things for my own K-Meleon build.
And sure - you can do this too!
